LCS MS/HS Band/Choir Christmas Concert

December 4th, 2009

There’s something about gym lighting. 1) There’s never enough of it, 2) It’s never _quite_ fluorescent tone green (which cameras have a preset for… but there’s no fluorescent tube that color either).

Concert went well, about 1.5 hours. Only took about 150 frames. Might have an idea for velcroing strobes to their carpet walls for tomorrow, need to see about finding where my velcro went. Tape doesn’t work.

New Images from November Photo Shoots

November 30th, 2009

November has been a busy month, although as some of it has been gearing up for a spring ad campaign it’s been partly self-inflicted.

Some of the interesting images from shoots that are in the editing phase right now:

Portrait of a Soldier
Above: Portrait of a Soldier: Actually from a Thanksgiving portrait session, his expression just caught me.

Above: Taking Brazil by Storm: A chef setting out to make a name for himself and his pastry in Brazil.

Above: Almost time: Due today, shot last week. An absolutely wonderful mother and family.

There will be some more images added to the portfolio and also some new galleries from each of those shoots to wander through in the coming week.

Sheep’s Clothing Partnership

November 11th, 2009

Hyak Photography has partnered with Sheep’s Clothing, located near Costco, next to Tony Roma’s on Gage Blvd. Check out their website, Shop With The Sheep as we are producing several thousand product images for the online store. Stop by for all of your yarn and yarn accessory needs, or to pick up Hyak Photography coupons.

As part of this partnership we will also be doing occasional photo shoots at the Sheep’s Clothing location to showcase customer creations created using their products.

Several new partnerships will be announced in the following months. If you are the owner or manager of a local small business and would be interested in partnering with Hyak Photography on either a one-time or ongoing basis please feel free to contact me. Some of the many options include photographic coverage of events, mobile portrait studio setups (including on-site printing), joint advertising campaigns, or discounted photography services in exchange for promotion.

Annual Alpha Phi Alpha Golf Tournament

September 22nd, 2009

This weekend I had the opportunity to sponsor a worthwhile organization, try out my new water bottle advertisements, and shoot some golf photos. I shot everyone at the #1 tee (through all of the trees!) and then was at the #10 for anyone who wanted to get a portrait of their group as they came back around.

Varsity Football: LCS @ Weston-McEwen

September 14th, 2009

Sports photography is new to me this year. It seems fitting that my first post of any substance is, therefore, related to sports photography.

Friday night was the second game of the season, and I drove down to Athena, OR. Lighting levels were below what I would have liked (1/320s f1.4 ISO1600), but with some creativity and fast primes I got a fair number of shots that I hope yearbooks and parents on both sides are happy with.
